Welcome to the NEW Coptic Dad & Mom!

Welcome to the NEW Coptic Dad and Mom!! I still CAN'T believe I took the plunge and got us a landing spot.

CDM Backstory

Believe it or not, I started writing on Coptic Dad & Mom back in early 2009! I was a new mom and still really a newlywed. I was browsing the Internet for advice on raising kids, and I couldn't find an Orthodox Christian perspective. I was so hungry for support. So I started writing. I wasn't consistent, I wasn't brilliant, but from the start I wrote the world as I saw it, with the truth and sincerity of my whole heart. The Internet is a very different place now. There are incredible resources for religious, traditional, powerful women. There's the whole network of Ancient Faith and the ever-empowering Fr. Anthony Messeh. There's TheOrthodoxMama.com. There's Adventures of an Orthodox Mom on Facebook and OrthodoxMom.com.I have fellow Coptic priest's wives writings to inhale like Dalia on Orthodox Mission Mom. I have blog buddies like Jen the Lutheran pastor's wife over at grace-filled.net and Maya's fresh perspective at howtocover.blogspot.com and the now-closed and yet TREASURE TROVE of good stuff over at coptincollege.wordpress.com.And, of course, the blog that got me through my transition into the priesthood Fear Not Little Flock by Priest's Wife. I'll never forget the moment my husband said, "Hey look... as we get ready for this whole ordination business... check this out." I probably owe her my sanity :).

COPTIC DAD

Although, I'm the writer, I can't take the Dad out of Coptic Dad and Mom. There is nothing that I do here that's possible without my husband of now eight years, a man I've known for 3,920 days... and yes, I know the exact moment we met and the hilarious story that goes with it. I only tell that story face to face, so you can watch me blush in person. He's the one I run to when I've published a new blog post. I sit and watch him read it and wait for his smile and his kind words. If I'm out of ideas, I pick his brain like crazy to get my flow back. When something I've written doesn't sit well with me, I take it to him and have him explain to me why I'm uncomfortable (thank God for soulmates to explain you to you). Much of what I have learned about living a Christ-like life, about true love, about selfless sacrifice comes directly from him.So you may not have heard from Coptic Dad directly yet, but he's always around here somewhere. The plan is to get some of his AMAZING sermons reworked into blog posts; maybe "Letters from Coptic Dad" or the like. And I have a dream, ladies and gentlemen, that one day dads will have their own voice in this space. For now, Abouna is busy tending to the real life, face-to-face needs of our beloved congregation, and he will drop in as possible/as needed.

WHERE WE'RE HEADED

Four weeks ago, I asked my readers and Facebook friends to fill out a survey about this blog, and the response was so overwhelming. Thank you again for taking the time. So, I made a decision that to serve you each better, I would get serious and give more of myself more consistently. Step one is moving over here to CopticDadandMom.com.So... Look out, world!
