I Am a Virginian and I'm Thankful for It!

"Until the day breaks and the shadows flee away, I will go my way to the mountain of myrrh and to the hill of frankincense." Song of Songs 4:6

I love living in Virginia and considered myself Virginian even before becoming a U.S. citizen! Here are the top three reasons I'm a true Virginian at heart.

1. I love the weather. It snowed and stuck on Monday. Today (Wednesday) the high is in the 60s. All winter long I can have warm Spring-like days, followed by frosted beauty! If it rains really hard on a summer morning, by afternoon the sun will turn the world into a sparkling, rainbow wonderland. I've heard this phrase used for many states, but it certainly applies here in Virginia: "Don't like the weather? Wait 5 min."

2. I love the mountains. When I was in first and second grade, they were really big on teaching us all the patriotic songs. "Purple mountain majesty" has got to be about Virginia. The Blue Ridge Mountains, the Appalachian Trail, the green valleys, the crisp caverns... The rolling hills of Virginia soothe the weary, invigorate the mind, and--oh, enough with the melodrama: They are stunning, and that's all you need to know.

3. I love the people. We're simple here. We may like fashion, but we're not gonna waste too much money on it. We love good food and especially walking the fine line between healthy and delicious. We're polite, but we're not pushovers. We're religious, but we respect your beliefs, too (for the most part). In most of Virginia (D.C. area aside), you won't find rude, honking drivers. What you'll find is plenty of "pass it on" kindness.
