32 - Home for the Holidays?
Do we OWE our extended family (our parents, siblings, cousins, and the like) time with them for the holidays? Madona and I tackle this loaded and complex question, while considering how our own family dynamics affect our point of view.
Welcome to Raising Up Copts!
We are closing in on the big Christmas season, where lots of people get together, gifts are shared, food is made… and the big one– lots of family.
Getting together with family can mean different things to different people. Holidays especially can be associated with a lot different memories—positive and negative.
That’s right… so today we wanted to bring in a rather large topic revolving around family and holidays. In the broader scope, this is a really deep and difficult topic to cover so we know we won’t cover it all today.
But for now, let’s chat: do we OWE our extended family time with them for the holidays?
We discuss many factors, including:
Do you live close by them and see them often?
How is your relationship with these people?
Do they respect you and your rules for your kids?
Is it possible to set boundaries?
We want to encourage you that however you choose to spend your holidays, no matter how simple or how complicated… we wish the spirit of Christ’s light through His birth shines through each of you this season! Merry Christmas!
